About Us

Our History

Advanced-HR is based in Doncaster and began in 2011. Ellen Walker and Tracey Rowe own the company; we both have extensive Human Resources experience, having worked in HR for over 25 years each.

We both worked in HR for local government, supporting schools and local government services from 2002 until 2011. Ellen’s experience before this was in further education in HR and banking, and Tracey worked in HR manufacturing and HR retail. We are both qualified to master’s level, with extensive knowledge of teachers’ and support staff’s terms and conditions.

We both specialised in employee relations in our roles at the local authority, with Tracey also spending six years as a pay & reward manager. As the services with our previous employer moved towards a call centre approach for schools, we both felt that schools needed more. We both recognised that schools wanted a close working relationship with a valued and trusted partner. We both volunteered for redundancy as part of restructuring in 2011 and left our roles.

Customer service and providing quality HR support have always been part of our makeup; it’s what we do best and believe works for schools. We had a vision and an ambition to provide bespoke, impactful and personalised HR to the education sector that was also results-driven. This led both of us to move forward and create.

Advanced HR in 2011

In our first year of business, we supported five schools, and now we support over 160 Schools & Academies across Doncaster, Nottingham, Barnsley, Rotherham, Sheffield, North Lincs & Huddersfield. Our business has grown organically by word of mouth and continues to grow on a reputation of outstanding support and advice.

In 2017, we purchased our own building, which has a training room capacity for 24 people; this enabled us to provide bespoke training to customers, ranging from Safer Recruitment to People Management training and mini-workshops on a range of topics. Our business has gone from strength to strength based on valuing customers and personalising our service to the individual needs of our customers. We pride ourselves on being led by what the customer wants, empowering people, managing people, and delivering results.

We also have fantastic, qualified, and experienced HR staff to support the growing number of academies and schools taking our service and independent investigators who provide a bespoke independent investigation where required.

What Do We Love?

When our customers tell us how much they value our service and how supported they feel when we see our customers implementing the people strategy that we have supported them with, we see people managers being empowered to manage their employees from our advice and support. Our service is all about driving schools and academies forward with their HR and seeing the successful impact of our advice and guidance. Hearing from our customers about their positive experiences with us is what makes us smile.

Our reputation is outstanding with the education institutes that we work with; we believe that this is down to our ability to understand the education sector and its needs, forge close working relationships and focus on the best outcome for customers.
